About Arb-Eco

Rick and Faye Jobbitt founded Arb-Eco limited in 2013, creating a bespoke Arboricultural and Green Asset Management company to service Council and private clients with environmental consultancy.
Arb-Eco’s team has grown over the years and is a team who can provide professional advice regarding all things arboricultural. Our team regularly attends industry conferences both in New Zealand and abroad to stay at the forefront of modern arboricultural technology. Arb-Eco’s own Rick Jobbitt has been a speaker .at national conferences.
Within Arb-Eco, Rick promotes Tikanga Māori, specifically Manaakitanga and Whanaungatanga. With ties to Northland, Rick provides sponsorship and support to his home community, specifically his rugby league team .
Within the green industry, Arb-Eco is involved in multiple ventures which aim to enhance the communities and the environment. Arb-Eco is a sponsor of participants of the Diploma in Arboriculture at Wintec in Hamilton, through the Alan Parker scholarship.

Arb-Eco is proudly supporting Auckland Council in the restoration of Upper Waitemata Harbour’s food trees on public land. This area was previously home to almost sixty orchards planted by early settlers, who supplied mainly apples, pears, plums and quince both locally and internationally.
Refurbishing orchard remnants spanning back as far as the early 1900’s takes a lot of care and attention.

For the physical works we are lucky to be working with fellow arborists, Brotherwood (Kumeu) who have a huge wealth of knowledge to add in terms of a permaculture angle, so we can incorporate improving the soil organically beneath each of these trees to further enhance and sustain them.

We also enjoy engaging with the local community who have great interest in these works as they learn directly from our experts through community demonstration days and help keep these local food trees in the process.

Our services

Arboricultural Assessment Reports

Arb-Eco’s dedicated and professional team of Arboricultural Consultants can undertake arboricultural reporting to respond to regulatory requirements, or to service private client requirements.

We have detailed knowledge of the Auckland Unitary Plan tree protection provisions, so we can ascertain the protection status of tree assets and help to navigate the consent process.

Tree Inspection & Tree Risk Assessment

Arb-Eco has qualified team members who can undertake tree risk assessments based on your requirements as the duty holder, tree owner or tree manager.

This encompasses both the International Society of Arboriculture Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (ISA TRAQ) and the VALID Tree Risk-Benefit Management Assessment (VALID).

Our reports will include recommended management practices to maintain valuable tree assets, or to specify remedial actions.

Tree Asset Evaluation

Tree assets can be valued in many ways. A qualified member of the Arb-Eco team can provide evaluation of tree qualities and tree asset valuations based on Arboriculture Australia™ Minimum Industry Standard (MIS) 506.

Tree Surveying & Inventory

Tree assets may require scheduled assessment of health and condition to form part of an asset management plan. Detailed inspection of trees and collation of data utilising geospatial technology is part of Arb-Eco’s suite of services. Tree assets can then be described and presented through a geospatial mapping program.

Ultimately, this information can be used to determine tree asset management needs within the site and inform tree management planning.

Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA):

An Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA) identifies tree assets at risk due to site development or operations. Specifically, this considers how trees will be impacted by the work, and what is required to minimize impact to the best extent practical to ensure tree asset retention and future viability. We apply industry standards, such as Australian Standard AS4970 (2009) – Protection of Trees on development Sites, to ensure best practices for tree protection are followed.

This assessment is prepared by qualified member of the team, who will provide objective appraisal and advice.

Tree Protection & Monitoring

Trees require protection during development and operations to ensure viability. Our team of Monitoring Arborists can implement prescribed Tree Protection & Management Plans (TPMP) in correlation with site specific tree protection measures. From implementation, we are able to direct contractors throughout a project’s duration to minimize the potential for incurred collateral damage during operations and plant movement.

This may additionally include managing sites which require specific hygiene protocols to be adhered to, such as Kauri Dieback Disease (KDD).

Arboricultural Project Management

Arboricultural projects come in all shapes and sizes. Arb-Eco can be involved to oversee implementations and direct works to completion, liaising with any relevant parties. For instance, we have previously overseen tree planting projects (including streets, parks and revegetation projects) as well as works to implement new tracks formations, or to facilitate programmed remedial track upgrading.

For technical projects, Arb-Eco has the professional attributes and associated insurances to engage and manage specialist arboricultural operations through contractors. This may include engaging a tree transplanting specialist, land clearing operator, or amenity tree pruning contractor, and so on…
